Last Days Skiing
Yesterday after watching Waiting and drinking a few beers, we headed out to the Crystal Lounge around 8:30. We got down there around 8:45 and it was emptier than previous visits, which was nice as we managed to get some good seats. It was an acoustics cover night, with a guitarist taking requests. I hadn't had enough beers at this point in the evening so I left it up to Paul to heckle requests. We managed to get him to play a little bit of Spirit of the Radio and The Trees by Rush! Overall he was very good and did a good range of tunes. After I'd had a few I got heartily into shouting requests. Sadly the requests for Journey (which someone else in the room also shouted for), Kansas and Chicago didn't happen. But he did play a little bit of More Than A Feeling by Boston after I shouted for it, probably more just because Brad Delp committed suicide in the last week admittedly. We had some food there, honey garlic chicken wings, fries and other fried delights. All very good. We eventually left after quite a few drinks, one of the problems of having lovely waitresses constantly coming up when you're almost empty asking if you want another!
After a heavy nights sleep, we got up around 9:45 for breakfast. Me and James then headed out around 11:40 to ski on Blackcomb mountain. We spent most of the morning going up the 7th Heaven chair and down the blues back to the chair (i.e. Southern Comfort, Panorama, Cloud Nine), we also had a run down the back to the glacier chair and came back up the t-bar. We stopped at the Horstman Lodge for lunch (at the top of the 7th Heaven chair). I finally got around to trying one of the bread chilli bowls, which was very nice. After lunch we headed down the Glacier side to the Crystal chair, then down Ridge Runner, into Twist and Shout, onto the Glacier Road, then onto Short Horn and back to the hotel.
I've got the fun of packing for the rest of the afternoon. We're off out to Earls for dinner, and then up to Vancouver shopping tomorrow before flying out tomorrow night.
The last two weeks have just flown by, but the skiing has for the most part been fantastic, and I certainly think my techniques improved. I just need to practice more leaning forward and get some courage back on the steeper runs!
