Day 4 – Hi ho hi ho it's off to Tignes we go
After a night of not much sleep for myself, we headed out to the ski shop to pick up our skis around 8:30, and then over to the Funival. At about 9:05 they finally announced it wasn't going to open just yet so we headed back over to the Daille chair. Whilst only runs we'd done before were open, all the pistes were covered in lots of lovely soft powder, in most places about boot high, in others knee deep. The first run down was possibly one of the best runs I've ever done.
We then headed onto the red Trifollet, which had been pretty much unskiied, this was also good but the powder was very thick in places, which resulted in a spectacular wipeout on my part, in which for some reason my bindings didn't release, and I almost did my right knee a nasty. Fortunately apart from a slight twinge in my lower back (later I realised this was actually my salopette strap), I was intact.
We carried on doing runs we'd done over the previous days, and as the morning progressed, it was clear that the forecast had been wrong – since we got here Wednesday has had very strong winds forecast – but none came to pass. The sun also made an appearance mid morning, and apart from a bit of cloud around lunch time, stayed out for the rest of the day.
We also did a couple of runs higher up that we hadn't been able to get on before and the nicely groomed slalom course (sans slalom poles), which was great fun. I also had the most comedy wipeout down one of the very powdery slopes – I was just coming to a stop at the side, not realising how deep it was and in went both skis, my right binding released I fell over with the left ski on and effectively covered up where the other ski had gone – cue lots of prodding with a pole from James and Andys dad to locate it, and then lots of effort digging it out.
We had lunch in the bar/restaurant near to the hotel, and then headed back up and over to Tignes. We did quite a lot of runs over there and also managed to get up the Funicular. We headed back to the Dailles side around 3:30 and left James and Andy to go play, whilst we took a leisurely run back to the hotel around 4:15. After dinner we headed up into town to find somewhere to eat tomorrow and then turned in around 9:30.
Weather is supposed to good for the next three days, and we're planning on heading up to Le Fornet first thing tomorrow to get up on the glacier. Hopefully various bits of me will be aching less tomorrow.
